Planet of the Apes – Prettiest Film Ever?

    Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

planetoftheapesposter1I rediscovered Planet of the Apes the other day (thanks to a £3 offer at HMV) and was thrown out of my chair by the cinematography in the opening scenes. You really could take any frame and, well, frame it.

The Director of Photography, Leon Shamroy, also shot Cleopatra, The King and I, Cheaper by the Dozen (the 1950 version, folks…) along with such memorable epics as “Snow White and the Three Stooges”.

    Top chap.

    Last Night at the Astoria

    Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

thankyouandgoodnightThe Astoria, London’s legendary venue, closed its doors for the last time on the 14th of January this year. We are making a documentary on this piece of British music history and were there to film the entire last night in glorious high definition. With the venue making way for the Tottenham Court Road Crossrail station, we’re getting in front of as many of the bands that played there as possible.

We would love to hear all your stories from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

    Let’s kick this off with:

Their May 1994 gig is remembered as one of Radiohead’s seminal coming of age moments prior to The Bends. Indeed the ‘My Iron Lung’ recording at the Astoria was never bettered, and with the addition of Thom Yorke’s vocals dubbed in, was used on the album.

    Milos v. Lasse

So convinced I was that Milos Forman directed What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, for reasons unbeknown to me. I took a bet with a good friend, who will remain nameless, who urged me not to take the bet as he went to school with no other than the son of the film’s actual director Lasse Hallström!
Stubbornly, with a few beers in me and convinced more than ever Milos had made the film, £20 was put on the table and the IMDB database consulted. We waited whilst the thrifty telephone technology battled with bandwidth, which gave me enough time to squirrel away another beer, which would buffer the result that arrived when the connection was made.
How could this be, why did I think Milos Forman directed this movie? Surely some fool polluted my brain with this misinformation… Or am I an idiot?
Perhaps, but good fortune did shine on me last night when I took one back from this same friend, who will still remain nameless. The nature of the bet is not important, I suppose because I won, but my success did land me a very tasty Thai dinner with beers to celebrate. Needless to say, with scores tied at 1 a piece, watch this space for more ridiculousness.

    Corporate Sales Video for Tetley

    Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Tetley commissioned a video for use by their salespeople in Russia and the CIS area. Our editors, animators and compositors used existing stock footage and TV commercials to produce a rather marvellous little piece of video.

New brand for a new development – St James Quarter, Edinburgh

    Friday, January 2nd, 2009

    stjames-montage

We are extremely proud to have devised a new brand identity for a property development that will help redefine one of the most recognisable skylines in the world.

The new identity for St James Quarter, Edinburgh, a retail site acquired by Henderson Global Investors, set for redevelopment until 2014, was evolved over several weeks by the Zebra Crossing team, lead by Luke Hammersley and including work by designers Rory Seaford and Chris Trotman.

The identity has been rolled into a variety of literature for use with planning applications, consultation processes, press activity and corporate stationary alongside a new content managed website (using Drupal) designed and built by the Zebra Crossing Digital team. See: www.stjamesquarter.info.

Zebra Crossing were appointed by Henderson’s PR & communications agency Halogen.
